Volume Five:
Production Notes

Another month, another issue of Full Tilt Remix…

Time really flies when you’re having fun, and that’s a true understatement when it comes to what the Full Tilt production crew do with each new release.  So let’s go take a look at what’s going down at the party this time around, shall we?

01. PULLIN’ ME BACK – CHINGY [80 BPM]
Our fifth issue kicks off in fine form with “Pullin’ Me Back”, the latest from Chingy. Featuring a great melody and vocal hook, Ben leaves the original song largely intact, adding just a subtle backbeat as well as the obligatory intro and break at the end. The end result is a nice little r&b-flavored hip-hop that’ll sound great in your next down-tempo mix.
02. THAT GIRL – FRANKIE J. [85 BPM]
The latest from Frankie J is a nice little down-tempo number that’s slowly climbing its way up the charts. Ben laced the song with some extra percussion that compliments the original track, delivering a remix that’ll fit perfectly in both your mainstream and rhythm/crossover sets.
03. I WRITE SINS NOT TRAGEDIES – PANIC AT THE DISCO [85 BPM]
One of the biggest rock-crossover tunes of the summer, “I Write Sins…” seemed at first to be a tough track to tackle. Marcus gets the job done however by building an intro and outro at half the original tempo while keeping the remainder of the song at its original pace. The end result is a remix of a bona-fide rock hit that you can drop seamlessly into the mix!
04. LONDON BRIDGE – FERGIE [91 BPM]
The first single from Fergie’s solo release is already bounding up the charts and shaping up to be one of the biggest hits of 2006. Ben’s remix adds some additional rhythmic elements that mesh perfectly with the original track, as well as a nice long lead-in and break at the end (for those of you who like to ride your segues longer than normal).
05. SEXY LOVE – NE YO [94 BPM]
The latest release from Ne-Yo, “Sexy Love” is a nice little pop/r&b number that’s shaping up to be yet another hit for the rising star. Ben crafted a simple remix that’s largely true to the original song, adding only a new rhythm track underneath to give things a bit of additional thump. Sure to be a peak-hour floor filler as the summer draws to a close!
06. (WHEN YOU GONNA) GIVE IT UP TO ME – SEAN PAUL [96 BPM]
Hot on the heels of “Temperature”, Sean Paul returns with yet another multi-format smash! With club and radio play already on the rise, we’re sure “(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me” will find its way into your weekly sets (assuming it hasn’t already!). Ben delivers a great remix on this record, adding some nice vocal stutter effects here and there and a backing beat that really helps draw out the overall vibe of the song.
07. U & DAT – E-40 (FEATURING T-PAIN) [100 BPM]
E-40’s biggest crossover chart hit to date, “U & Dat” is a simple and straightforward club and radio record that’s already making big waves. Marcus handles the remix chores on this one, adding a classic hip-hop break to the track as well as a few well-placed Kraftwerk samples around the intro and outro.
08. STARS ARE BLIND – PARIS HILTON [102 BPM]
Say what you will about Miss Hilton, but the release of her debut single, “Stars Are Blind”, has given the starlet her first legitimate pop hit. Ben delivers a simple production that gives the reggae-pop flavored track some much-needed structure; the end result is a dance-floor and radio-ready remix!
09. SEXYBACK (PART 1) – JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE [117 BPM]
There’s no denying the instant success of Justin’s latest; “Sexyback” is everywhere it seems, and we couldn’t help but feature it twice on Volume 5. Part 1 comes to us courtesy of Ben, whose remix is based on the song’s original tempo. With some original percussion working underneath and some cleverly placed vocal effects and samples from the original acapella, Ben delivers a version that’s ready to take center stage in your next peak hour set!
10. A PUBLIC AFFAIR – JESSICA SIMPSON [124 BPM]
Jessica returns with an infectious up-tempo pop number entitled “A Public Affair”. Marcus’ remix really shines, adding an old-school freestyle flavored beat to the original song, some filtering effects near the intro and outro (taken from the song’s almost hypnotic bass-line), as well as some well-placed samples from an old 80’s pop hit that we’re sure you’ll recognize!
11. SEXYBACK (PART 2) – JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE [128 BPM]
“Sexyback” returns for a second overhaul, this time courtesy of Marcus. He kicked the tempo up to 128 BPM and gave Justin’s hit a bit of a house-flavored reworking, adding some additional kicks and hats as well as a simple but effective bass-line. Throw in some well-timed vocal and filter effects and the end result is a remix that’s sure to work wonders in your next up-tempo set!
12. GET UP – CIARA (FEAT CHAMILLIONAIRE) [129 BPM]
Ciara returns with “Get Up”, another sleeper hit that’s quickly becoming a crowd favorite. Ben adds a number of a new rhythmic elements and patterns that really help fill in the gaps throughout the track. Much like his Fergie remix, his production work here also features a longer 32/32 intro and outro (once again, for those of you who prefer to ride your beatmixes a little longer than normal!)
13. ‘IT TAKES TWO’ (TRANSITION BREAK TRACK) [98-112 BPM]
One break track this time around, courtesy of Marcus, who gives us a simple reinterpretation of the old Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock classic “It Takes Two”. Drawing on various samples used in the original song, Marcus delivers a simple break that you can use to transition easily from your down-tempo sets up to your mid-tempo sets.

SEXYBACK (LOOP TRACK) [117 BPM]
A PUBLIC AFFAIR (LOOP TRACK) [124 BPM]
It goes without saying - it just wouldn’t be a proper Full Tilt release without a few loop and bed tracks to fall back on. For Volume 5, Ben hooks us up with some beats from his Part 1 remix of “Sexyback” and Marcus delivers a short “dub” of sorts from his Jessica Simpson reworking.
16. CROWDED – JEANNIE ORTEGA (FEAT PAPOOSE) [94 BPM]
Originally slated for inclusion on Volume 4, we just couldn’t get the debut pop hit from Jeannie Ortega cleared in time for our previous release. The title of the song said it all – our last installment was just too “Crowded” (and man oh man do we apologize for the terrible play on words there!). For Volume 5 however, we had just enough room to squeeze in this great little pop record, and Marcus’ take does just the trick, delivering a simple interpretation that’s largely true to the original song but gives you, the DJ, a remix that ready-made to drop in the mix!

On that note, we draw Volume 5, another jam-packed installment, to a close.

And for those of you who read these production notes carefully, we teased the first release in our upcoming Flashbacks series last time around.  Rest assured, that disc is still coming, but with all of the late-summer hits that landed in our lap on such short notice, we just couldn’t wait to get them out to you!  Volume 6 is also in production and it’s already shaping up to be another feature-packed disc that you’re sure to love.

Thanks once again from the staff and production crew for the continued Full Tilt love – with five releases out to date and both our sixth and seventh on the way, we simply wouldn’t be able to do it all without your support!
